Vice President, Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and Fund Finance, Global Credit Markets 

A career as a Vice President in the Financial Institutions Group ("FIG") and Fund Finance, Global Credit Markets team at National Bank of Canada Capital Markets means acting as a trusted advisor to financial institution clients while leading the structuring, execution, and origination of complex financing transactions. 

In this role, you will leverage your expertise in corporate lending, credit analysis, capital markets, and relationship management to support the growth of the FIG franchise across Canada and internationally. You will work closely with clients and internal partners to develop tailored financing solutions and deliver strategic advice to banks, insurance companies, asset managers, specialty finance companies, and other financial institution clients. 

The position is suited to an experienced finance professional with strong analytical capabilities, proven transaction execution experience, and the ability to build and manage senior client relationships. 

Your Job 

  • Lead the origination, analysis, structuring, and execution of complex corporate lending and credit-based financing transactions for Financial Institution clients. 
  • Build and manage client relationships, participate in business development initiatives, and lead client meetings, presentations, and pitch opportunities alongside senior members of the team. 
  • Oversee financial, credit, and industry analysis, while leading the preparation and presentation of credit recommendations and transaction materials used for internal approval processes and client discussions. 
  • Monitor portfolio performance, market conditions, and key industry trends impacting the Financial Institutions sector, providing strategic insights to clients and internal stakeholders. 
  • Work closely with colleagues across Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Loan Syndications, Debt Capital Markets, Derivatives, and Risk Management to deliver integrated financing solutions and successfully execute transactions.
  • Mentor and develop Analysts and Associates, promote best practices across the team, and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes and analytical frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the FIG sector and represent the team internally and externally as a trusted advisor and industry specialist. 

Your Team 

This position reports to the Managing Director & Head, Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and Fund Finance, Global Credit Markets. Based in Toronto, the FIG team works closely with Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Debt Capital Markets, Loan Syndications, M&A, Derivatives, and Risk Management teams to deliver comprehensive financing solutions to clients across the financial institutions sector.

Prerequisites 

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline. 
  • 5–8+ years of relevant experience in corporate banking, financial institutions coverage, global credit markets, leveraged finance, investment banking, or related fields. 
  • Strong experience analyzing and structuring corporate lending and financing transactions. 
  • Deep understanding of financial institution business models, credit fundamentals, and capital structures. 
  • Advanced financial modeling and credit analysis capabilities. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously with limited supervision. 
  • Experience preparing and presenting detailed credit recommendations and client presentations. 
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • CFA, CPA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation is considered a strong asset. 
  • Excellent relationship management and business development skills. 
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and team collaboration experience.
