A career as a Senior Legal Counsel in the team of Client Relationship and Complaints Advisory Services National Bank Financial Legal Affairs sector – Financial Markets and Wealth Management is to act as in a wide range of stimulating complaints and advisory files as part of an enthusiastic and collegial team.

Your role

• Act as the resource person to advise, support and accompany the business units regarding all their activities, but more particularly, regarding situations involving vulnerable persons, but also power of attorney, protection mandate, incapacity, trust, estate and protect their rights and interests

• Develop and maintain tools and training on various aspects related to vulnerable persons

• Carry out a legal, regulatory and financial analysis of complaint files, while detecting and evaluating the related risks (legal, regulatory and reputational), to determine the position of the business units and to lead settlement negotiations with various stakeholders.

• Issue opinions and advise business units on various legal and regulatory issues and make recommendations to ensure the development and protection of the firm in accordance with its business objectives

• Cooperate on regulatory investigations and disputes related to complaint files

• Collaborate and interact with various external stakeholders involved in consultation and complaint files

Your team

Within the NBF Legal Affairs sector, you are part of a team of more than 30 colleagues, and you report to the Assistant Vice President - Client Relationship and Complaints Advisory Services and will work in close collaboration with the Senior Manager responsible for situations involving vulnerable persons.

Basic requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in law and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience and member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec or the Chambre des notaires du Québec

• Experience or knowledge of general and legal concepts related to vulnerable persons

• Experience or knowledge in securities law

• Knowledge of Common Law an asset

• Analytic, problem-solving skills and judgment to act quickly

• Be attentive, balanced, empathetic and kind
