The National Bank of Canada Capital Markets Sales & Trading Rotation Program is designed for ambitious emerging talent. The program offers structured development, mentorship from experienced professionals, networking opportunities, and exposure to diverse business areas. You gain valuable experience, expand your professional network, and develop the skills needed to succeed and grow as future leaders in Capital Markets

At National Bank, our rotational program participants are treated as future analysts, not observers. You work closely with professionals across the trading floor, contribute to real business initiatives, and build the skills, relationships, and market knowledge required for a successful career in Capital Markets.

Overview of the Program

1. Training

Your journey begins with a six-week immersive learning experience delivered at National Bank's Montreal offices and HEC Montréal's trading room.

You receive intensive exposure to:

Financial markets and products
Trading platforms and market technology
Risk management fundamentals
Market analysis and research
Capital Markets workflows
Professional development and networking

Throughout the program, you interact directly with Managing Directors, Heads of Business, and senior executives who provide insights into their careers, leadership experiences, market perspectives, and the strategic priorities shaping Capital Markets.

The goal is to build a strong foundation before entering rotational assignments across Capital Markets.

2. Rotations

Upon completion of the training, you undertake a series of rotations across various Capital Markets business lines in Calgary, Montreal and Toronto. Each rotation is tailored to align with your interests, strengths, and skill set, while also addressing business line needs.

Throughout these rotations, you gain exposure to team operations, develop practical experience through hands-on learning, and may have opportunities to contribute to ongoing projects.

What You Will Gain :

A national perspective by working with teams across Calgary, Montreal and Toronto
Direct mentorship from experienced professionals and senior leaders
Practical experience contributing to meaningful business initiatives
Extensive networking opportunities across Capital Markets
A deeper understanding of market products, clients, and business strategies
Enhanced leadership, communication, and relationship management skills
A strong professional foundation for a long-term career in financial markets

“The rotation program was one of the highlights of my early career. The intensive learning experience, combined with presentations from all of the trading desks across the Bank, gave me a fantastic overview of the business. I had the opportunity to work alongside many different teams, learn from experienced professionals, and build relationships that I still rely on today in my role on the Dublin trading desk.

For new graduates, it is an incredible opportunity to explore different areas of the Bank and gain exposure to trading desks they might not otherwise have the chance to experience.”
